Abstract:
The study was carried out to determine how female sexuality is depicted in Nollywood and
explored reasons for the depiction, albeit stereotypical. This research was anchored on
genderlect and muted group theories. The researchers adopted library research method. The
researchers did a review of essays, research works and media commentaries of scholars,
essayists and commentators on the depiction of female sexuality in Nollywood. Findings
showed that majority of Nollywood films represent female sexuality in stereotypical and
debatable forms. The findings also showed that the representation of women in Nollywood
has not witnessed any radical departure from the traditional pre-conceived roles of women
in societies. The researchers, therefore, recommended among others, that the orientation,
skill and capacity of Nollywood producers be strengthened in projecting balanced views of
female sexuality themes as this would contribute to reducing stereotypical perception of
women.
