ANTI-CORRUPTION WAR IN NIGERIA: A dialectical Analysis

Abstract

Corruption breeds all the terrible and negative things in society. It has really been the impediment in the path of progress in Nigeria. It is reported that as much as 120 billion dollars has been siphoned from Nigeria's treasury and moved into coded bank accounts offshore by dishonest rulers since I960, thus plunging its people into destitution. This work attempts to establish that corruption is a global malaise that has absolutely not spared any nation. Corruption is not just a social problem in Nigeria but one of chronic and endemic proportion, germinating in many forms and at all levels of the society and causing serious havoc to the Nigerian populace. This book seeks to raise public awareness of the detrimental impact of corruption on socio-economic development. The work examines and assesses the critical roles of institutional mechanisms in the fight against corruption in Nigeria. The challenge today is to develop operationally effective responses to this disease. The work draws part of its inspiration from the establishment of anti-corruption agencies like ICPC and EFCC.
