Abstract:
The focus of this paper is on e-learning strategies and its benefit to re-engineering
education for sustainable development. The objectives of education which include:
functional change, social need, self-fulfillment, Universal Basic Education (UBE) for
all forms of citizens, continuous assessment, modern education techniques and
self-learning has not been achieved, one imagines if the methods of teaching is the
reason for not realization of the objectives of education. Anchoring on the above,
the researchers wonders if e-learning strategies could serve as a veritable tool to
re-engineering Nigerian education for sustainable development. E-learning is an
improved learning strategy to promote the use of computer/technologies (web and
non-web) to enable people learn anytime anywhere, hence the facilities are
available and the users competent as well. The researchers conclude that for
sector of education to accomplish the expectation of the society, e-learning
strategies is needed hence it Is a veritable tool for re-engineering education for
sustainable development. Recommendations were made that technology should
be infused into the entire school programme starting from the planning to the
implementation stages of the curriculum, this will promote ICT skills among
teachers and learners and will encourage variety of learning opportunities.
