This paper investigates how business growth can enhance employment generation in Nigeria. The objectives are to examine the role of increased sales volume and increased number of employees in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) on employment generation.
Unemployment is a critical global and national issue requiring urgent attention. A descriptive survey design was adopted, and a questionnaire was administered to 166 management staff from randomly selected SMEs in Kaduna metropolis. Both descriptive and inferential statistics, using SPSS software, were applied to analyze the data collected.
The findings reveal that business growth, measured by increased sales volume and increased number of employees, significantly contributes to employment generation through job creation. Based on these findings, the paper recommends that the government needs to encourage financial institutions to assist entrepreneurs financially, and all levels of government should work together to create an enabling environment for SMEs to thrive and drive employment generation in Nigeria. |
